Farnham Charity Bike Ride
A fun event for all – cycle a circular route at your own pace through beautiful, local countryside
Sunday, 3rd July 2011 - The Biggest and Best Yet!
Cyclists of all ages from Farnham and beyond gathered in their hundreds, ready to cycle 25 miles or 50 miles in aid of local charities. By the time the ride was started by Farnham Mayor Gillian Hargreaves and M.C. Richard Bousfield there were 557 cyclists checked-in and ready to go – a record for this event.
The routes were predominantly on minor roads through Surrey and Hampshire countryside. Both offered scenic views, country pubs and a few challenging hills! Martin Goult was the first to complete the 25-mile route, after 1 hour 21 minutes, closely followed by Peter Williams and Julian Goatee was the first person to complete the 50-mile route, with a time of 2 hours 31 minutes.
The number of riders exceeded the combined total of the first two years. Similarly, total funds raised have quickly smashed the £10,000 combined total of the first two events. All event proceeds will go to local charities and causes including Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice who supported this event.
The event organisers, Farnham Round Table and St. Andrew's Infant School PTA, were delighted with this response, and also the reaction of the riders to the event.
The feedback from participants whether at the finish point or comments sent via email has been overwhelmingly positive. People enthused about the route, signage and especially the efforts of all the helpers and marshalls who helped create a friendly atmosphere making the day so memorable.
