Sunday 7th July 2013 – What an amazing day!

Around the world with Farnham Charity Bike Ride

A total of 973 riders entered the 2013 Farnham Charity Bike Ride, 180 more (23%) than 2012.

The new 16-mile route proved very popular attracting 162 riders, whilst 340 opted for the challenging 50-mile route.  Almost half the riders, 464, chose the classic 25-mile route.

On a sweltering day, between them they covered over 31,000 miles.  That’s equivalent to cycling from London to Sydney three times, and more than the Earth’s 25,000 mile circumference!

Riders set off in five waves having enjoyed a brief warm-up from Marie Coburn, a Personal Trainer (and 50-mile entrant) from Farnham Nuffield Health and Wellbeing.

They left with smiles on their faces and returned to Waggon Yard car park with huge grins on faces to collect their medals.

There was plenty of Murray-esque determination on display as all the hills were gradually and the finish line finally appeared.

Congratulations to all the riders, and special mention to the many (over 150) children taking part.

The event is growing quickly and would not be possible without the help and support of many people.

  • Families, parents and staff from St Andrew’s Infant School, current members and former members of Farnham Round Table, plus volunteers from Citizens Advice Waverley and members of public.
This small army put up all the route signs, checked the routes, set up the car park, ran the check-in desks, refreshment points and marshal points, checked all the riders back in, issued medals, cleared the car park and the routes – in two days!
  • St John Ambulance – always on hand and always friendly.
  • Hampshire Police – for their assistance at the A325 crossing.
  • Event Sponsors: East St Cycles and Swain & Jones.
  • Event Supporters: Brasserie Blanc, Farnham Herald, Warren Powell-Richards.
  • Everybody who cheered the riders along the routes.
  • Most of all, thanks to the all the riders for their enthusiasm, their support for the event, and their fund-raising efforts.

Rider Timings

New for 2013, each rider was issued with a timing chip.

Start and finish times were recorded for the vast majority of riders.  However there are some riders where no time or a false time is shown.  This is most likely due to the chip not being worn on the ankle or passing, the sensor more than two times.

A full list of timings, sorted by rider number, is available by clicking here.
